The Soviet Union national football team was the official football team of the USSR and existed from 1924 to 1991. It was one of the strongest teams in Europe and the world, winning the first European Championship in 1960. The team traditionally wore red jerseys, reflected the ideals of Soviet sport, and was heavily influenced by centrally controlled training methods. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, the team ceased to exist, and the individual successor states, such as Russia, Ukraine, and Georgia, formed their own national teams.
